How to Request Lee's Summit Police Records

To get police reports or arrest records from the LSPD, fill out the department's records disclosure request form and return it with a valid ID. You can submit the form in person at 10 NE Tudor Road. The Records Unit also accepts requests by mail to the same address. Email requests can go to pdrecords@cityofls.net with a scanned copy of your ID attached.

Before providing records, the Records Unit must complete several steps. Staff must process and review your Sunshine Law request, notify the relevant officers or divisions of the request, have a reviewer check records for responsiveness, convert records to an accessible format, and then compile or print the documents. This process typically takes 7 to 10 business days. The department will respond within three business days as required by Section 610.023.3 RSMo, but for complex requests, the actual delivery of records can take 25 business days or more.

An invoice will be sent for any charges before records are released. You must pay before receiving the documents. The department will not release records until the fee is paid.

Types of Records and Missouri Sunshine Law

LSPD maintains police reports, arrest records, accident reports, incident reports, and investigative reports. All of these fall under RSMo Chapter 610. Investigative reports are closed while an investigation is active. Once the case becomes inactive, the report becomes public. Active case files may be withheld entirely or released with redactions.

The department reviews every request carefully to protect closed or confidential information under Section 610.021 RSMo. This review process is part of why complex requests take longer than simple ones. If any portion of a record is withheld, the department must tell you which exemption applies. You can challenge a denial by contacting the Missouri Attorney General's Office.
