How to Request St. Charles Police Records

The City of St. Charles uses a Records Request Portal at stcharlescitymo.justfoia.com. To submit a new request, click the New Request button and fill out the form. The portal lets you track your request status and receive documents electronically. This is the most convenient method for most requests.

In-person requests are accepted at City Hall, 200 N. 2nd Street, during business hours. Bring a photo ID. For police and traffic accident reports, a notarized statement is required if you are requesting by mail. Include the report number in your notarized statement, along with your involvement in the incident (victim, suspect, driver, attorney, insurance company, property owner, family member, or news media) and your reason for requesting the report. Bring a photo ID for in-person pickups.

St. Charles County police reports from the county agency (not the city) are available from the Bureau of Central Police Records ten days after the reported incident. The city and county agencies are separate, so make sure you are contacting the right department based on where the incident occurred.

Police reports cost $6.50, payable by cash or check made payable to the Treasurer, St. Louis County. (Note that this fee reference in the city's fee schedule references St. Louis County billing conventions but applies to city requests.) Certified copies may carry additional certification fees. Standard copy fees follow Missouri Sunshine Law limits at $0.10 per page for paper copies. Research time is billed at actual hourly cost for the lowest-capable staff member.

The St. Charles County Police, a separate agency, can be reached at 101 Crossing Industrial Court, St. Charles, MO 63301, phone 636-949-7000. The St. Charles County Sheriff is at 636-949-3010. These county agencies handle records for incidents in unincorporated parts of the county, not necessarily incidents within St. Charles city limits.

Note: Report availability depends on the provisions of the Sunshine Law (RSMo Chapter 610). Active or ongoing investigation reports are not available until the case closes or becomes inactive.

Types of Records Available

The St. Charles Police Department maintains police reports, traffic accident reports, incident reports, arrest records, and municipal court records.
